Martin Scorsese’s Paris adventure Hugo finished with five Oscars after being nominated for 11 awards.
Hugo began the night well, winning the first two prizes of the night for cinematography and art direction.
“Marty, you’re a genius as usual,” said “Hugo” cinematographer Robert Richardson, who won his third Oscar after previous wins for “JFK” and Scorsese’s “The Aviator.”
It was a great start for Scorsese’s film, but by the end of the ceremony,Hugo had to settle for the technical awards as the The Artist ran away with best film, best actor and best director.
Hugo won three more awards for sound mixing, sound editing and visual effects.
