Flops don’t bother me,says Akshay

Since 7 years,Akshay has delivered 14 flops and this year too his films did not fare well with the audience.

His last few films may not have done well at the box office but actor Akshay Kumar says he has seen a rougher patch earlier in his career when he delivered 14 flops.

Except for ‘Desi Boyz’,Akshay’s recent outings including Priyadarshan’s ‘Khatta Meetha’,Vipul Shah’s ‘Action Replayy’,Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’,Anees Bazmee’s ‘Thank You’ did not fare well with the audience, but the actor is least perturbed with flops.

“Flops don’t bother me,I just work harder in my next film. Every human being has to go from high to low and from low to high. If you understand that, then you will never have a problem,” Akshay said.

“Seven years ago,I delivered 14 flops… big deal! You just keep on working,” the 44-year-old actor added.

At a time when actors like Salman Khan,Shah Rukh Khan,Ajay Devgn and others are vying for Rs 100-crore mark on the opening weekend at Box Office,Akshay says records will keep on happening and breaking.

“I was the first guy whose film ‘Singh is Kinng’ raked in Rs 70-80 crores but soon some other film came in and the record was broken. That benchmark is going to increase every year, today it is Rs 100 crores, tomorrow it will Rs 150 or 200 crores, one day after five years,Rs 400 crores would seem less. So it (records) will keep breaking,” he said.

However,Akshay has an eventful year this time,with Sajid Khan’s multi-starrer comic-caper,’Housefull 2′,besides Prabhudeva-directed ‘Rowdy Rathore’,where he would be seen as a action hero,Shirish Kunder’s fantasy adventure film ‘Joker’,action-comedy ‘Khiladi 786′ and a heist drama,’Special Chabbis’.

Besides ‘Housefull’,Akshay has been part of other movie franchises like the famous ‘Khiladi’ series and ‘Hera Pheri’,both of which will be adding a new instalment soon.

“I enjoy doing sequels,I am the one who started them in Bollywood with the ‘Khiladi’ films. I guess there were no sequels made before that. I have been a part of three franchises so far – Khiladi,Housefull and Hera Pheri,” said the actor, who will also be seen in the sequel to ‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbai’ and ‘Hera Pheri 4’.

Akshay is also working on his next production ‘OMG’,which is half complete.

“The film is adapted from a Hindi play called Krishna vs Kanhaiya. Paresh Rawal stars in play and he has done over 700 shows on stage. I have bought the rights and turned it into a film. But I am not starring in it.”

Being part of commercial films throughout his career,Akshay says he likes working in movies which bring returns at the box office and are not just for creative satisfaction.

“When a producer makes a film,he wants it to be a commercial hit as well. It is a rare combination that your film is good content-wise and also runs commercially. People hardly came to watch ‘8X10 Tasveer’,but I love that film. Even my favourite ‘Sangharsh’ did not do well. These days even films which do not make any sense earn 100 crores,so there is a certain commercial protocol that you have to follow.”

Akshay says the onus is on the scriptwriters to churn out a story that is good and commercially successful.

“I want to do parallel cinema which makes sense commercially. But you don’t get a script like that everyday. I loved ‘Kahaani’,but it is a rare film that attracts audience to the theatres even on Monday. It’s up to the writers to come up with a script like that. They are the most important people in the industry, but they don’t get their dues.”
