After a long drought of Bollywood releases due to the stand-off between producers and the multiplex owners, movie buffs will finally be treated to Soha Ali Khan and Kunal Khemu starrer ’99’ which releases today.
The film which also stars veterans like Vinod Khanna,Boman Irani and comedian Cyrus Brocha in key roles,is being released in all the major multiplexes as well as in the single screens of the country.
Anupam Mittal, the producer of the film justified his decision to release the film despite the “strike” by the
producers, saying,”I was actually caught unawares with the strike. I had pre-planned to release the film during IPL because it has cricket as the backdrop.”
“We wanted to release the film in mid April but keeping the producers’ stand in mind we moved the release to May first week. We were hoping that issue will be resolved in the meeting on May 5 but when nothing came out of it we were left with no option but to release the film.
“If I don’t do it now I have to shut down my company,” Mittal said.
A tussle has been going on between multiplex owners and film producers-distributors on the issue of profit sharing.
Mittal, however, declined to comment about the nature of his agreement with multiplexes.
Directed by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna DK,’99’ revolves around small time hackers Sachin (Kunal Khemu),Zaramud (Cyrus Brocha) and gambling addict businessman Rahul (Boman Irani) who try to play the biggest bet of their life on a cricket match.
The film which has also been shot in Delhi will provide an added attraction to the city audience with its characters going through an unpredictable and hilarious ride spread over two metropolitans,Mumbai and Delhi.
“It is an interesting representation of how a Mumbaikar perceives Delhi which will be a treat to watch,” Mittal said.
