NDTV Imagine,Monday to Friday,7 pm
Whats it about?
Nachle Ve aims to stand out in the crowd of dance-based shows on Indian television. While most of them are dance competitions, this one focuses on teaching dance. The show is back in its second season and has two teachers this time veteran choreographer Saroj Khan and salsa expert Terence Lewis.
Each episode is dedicated to a particular form of dance. There are four or sometimes six participants learning the art from the dance masters. The half-hour long programme teaches you to dance professionally on a song.
With dance masters who specialise in two different dance forms, the participants are at times taught fusion pieces as well. There are no winners here. Its USP: people seated in the confines of their home can learn the dance just by watching TV. Or,so the show claims.
Whos in it?
Khan and Lewis are at the helm of affairs. While Khan is a seasoned host,Lewis tries to get his groove right. Khan mostly concentrates on teaching the Bollywood style of dancing, while Lewis shows off his salsa and Latin dancing skills.
The participants are either those picked from television soaps,or dance enthusiasts who wish to make it big in the dance world. TV celebs such as Neha Marda,Naman Shaw,Karan Mehra,Jayashree Soni,Shaleen Bhanot and Jay Bhanushali are seen shaking a leg.
The show is interesting only to those who are extremely keen on learning dance but do not have the opportunity or the time to so. Khan and Lewis are both excellent dancers and it is nice to see them take such an initiative on television. Veteran Khan can give most young choreographers a run for their money, while Lewis is a welcome change for the participants.
There are more cons to this show than pros. To begin with, the production quality is extremely poor. So is the setting, which looks dated and similar to the one shown in the first season. The show, though claiming to focus on various styles of dancing, falls in the Bollywood trap. Both Khan and Lewis, teach dance on Bollywood tunes. This doesnt serve the purpose of the show which aims at imparting dance lessons. A single step is demonstrated five to six times, which results in boredom. The show timing is a dampener because not many working professionals reach home by this hour.
Should you be watching it?
You would rather join a neighbourhood dance class.
