All was not well between Jaya Prada and Sridevi when the actors were at the peak of their careers and the former says there was an intense rivalry between the two. Jaya Prada said the rivalry was so fierce, they would rarely even look each other in the eye.

During an episode of The Kapil Sharma Show, Jaya Prada opened up about her equation with Sridevi. The actors had started their careers from the South film industries before making their Hindi film debut.

Jaya Prada and Sridevi worked in several films together, including Tohfa with Jeetendra, Mawali, Maqsad among others. “We were sisters on screen but off camera we used to sit in different corners on the set. We never used to look each other in the eye” Jaya Prada was quoted as saying by News18.

The veteran then recalled how Jeetendra had once locked the duo in a room in the hope that they sort out their differences– but that didn’t happen as they didn’t speak to each other at all.

“Once during lunch time Jeetendra ji locked us both in one room for an hour. We were both hungry and wanted to eat. One hour later when he opened the door, we both went our separate ways to eat. We did not speak at all during the time we were locked in.”

Jaya Prada and Sridevi started their careers around the same time, with both working in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada films before branching out to Hindi films in the 70s.

The actor said the core of their rivalry was that both were the most sought-after actors of thier times and were excellent dancers as well. Jaya Prada, however, also got emotional talking about Sridevi and said she misses the actor, who passed in 2018 in Dubai.
