Farah Khan shares a warm friendship with actor Shah Rukh Khan and has often spoken about the times when they were both starting their careers in the film industry. After a long career as a choreographer, when Farah transitioned into being a director, SRK produced her first film Main Hoon Na, and starred in it too. In fact, Shah Rukh starred in three of her four films. In an earlier chat, Farah spoke about her camaraderie with Shah Rukh and said that she would treat him badly on set.

“Shah Rukh (Khan) used to say this, ‘One thing about Farah is she treats everyone the same way. She treats me as badly as she treats a spot boy.’ I think that’s a great quality to have. A lot of people treat the crew very badly. I unanimously treat everyone badly. I think, for me, because I was a technician and then I was a choreographer… when I made my first movie, it was important that people who work in the back get seen. Now people do my movies because they want to come in the last song,” she was quoted as saying by T2 Online.

After Main Hoon Na, Farah, who has helmed Om Shanti Om, Tees Maar Khan and Happy New Year, revealed that she was expecting her triplets during the filming of OSO,

Farah, who was pregnant with her triplets during the filming of Om Shanti Om, spoke about women being great multi-taskers and said, “Women can multitask, unlike men. We can do seven different things at the same time without complaining or making half the fuss that they make. We do it naturally and don’t make a fuss about it. When I was having triplets, I had to finish the last schedule of my film. I got on with it. Shah Rukh was really upset because we were shooting for Dard-e-Disco and every time he would remove his shirt, I would throw up.”

While her debut film attained a status of a classic, Om Shanti Om launched Deepika Padukone and is counted among the most successful films of 2007. “I do movies that are a little off. I don’t think you can take a real-life experience and make Om Shanti Om. But the professor who speaks bad Hindi and all such characters I take from real life. They were all neighbours in my old building. Of course, I exaggerate it. Because my movies are not really slice-of-life films. It is real but over the top,” she added.

Recalling her initial days as a technician, Farah, in the same chat said the other female choreographers of the time did not support her. “There were barely any women in technical fields. There were very few. Earlier there used to be 80 men and one woman on a set. The women on set were only hairdressers. They were not allowed to be make-up artists. But when I was working, if you think the other women choreographers supported me… not at all. They used to call the directors and say: ‘Why are you taking her, I will do the song for free,” she shared.
