The trailer of Anup Singh’s Indo-German drama ‘Qissa: The Tale of a Lonely Ghost’, starring Bollywood talents Irrfan Khan and Tisca Chopra is finally here.
Set in the post-partition period, the trailer starts off with Sikhs fleeing their villages. Amongst the turmoil and terror is a man named Umber Singh, whose wife gives birth to a baby girl. But Umber is not pleased, he wants a son.
Three daughters later, Umber Singh is still waiting for a son. Finally, his wife is pregnant again and this time Umber is confident that he will be blessed with a son. However, the Gods have sent a daughter once more.
But, Umber believes he can cheat nature and brings up his daughter as a son, named Kanwar. From a young age, his youngest child is taught to fight, hunt and fulfill his father’s wishes.
Complications arise when Kanwar reaches marriageable age and Umber Singh goes out in search of a wife for Kanwar. A wedding takes place, leaving both the bride and Kanwar deeply confused about their identity and feelings for each other.
‘Qissa’ was screened at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival where it won the Netpac Award for World or International Asian Film. Irrfan Khan as a dad is amazing.
In July last year, Irrfan and Tillotama, who play the father-daughter duo, were named Best Actors at the International Film Festival of Queensland (IFFQ) in Australia.
