Vidya Balan,Emraan Hashmi’s Ghanchakkar releases today

<i>Ghanchakkar</i> has Vidya and Emraan playing married couple.

After taking everyone by storm with their last unconventional hit,The Dirty Picture,Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi are back onscreen with Rajkumar Gupta’s Ghanchakkar,which releases today.

Director Rajkumar Gupta,who rose to fame with his thrillers,Aamir and No One Killed Jessica has chosen to make a comedy thriller this time.

Ghanchakkar,which has Vidya and Emraan playing married couple,tells the tale of a criminal who is apparently struck by amnesia when the time comes to share the treasures from a past heist with his partners.

Vidya Balan on the other hand,plays a loud,over-the-top,insane Punjabi housewife,who will have you rolling with laughter.

The duo have been going all out in promoting the film,especially Vidya Balan who made it a point to attend each event in character,opting for dhinchak outfits.

This will be vidya Balan’s first release in over 15 months,the National Award winning actress was last seen on the big screen in Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani.

“There was a 15-month break after Kahaani and I did not realise that I was away for so long. But it was a not a break,I was doing things. After Kahaani,I started preparing for Ghanchakkar,I got married. I just took a month-long break. Then I began Shaadi Ke Side Effects. Then the Cannes Festival. I have been working these past 15 months,” she told PTI earlier.

Director Rajkumar Gupta insists that Ghanchakkar is not a slapstick or below the belt comedy. Infact,he says it is a quirky,funny and sensationally humorous film.

Ghanchakkar also stars Rajesh Sharma and Namit Das. The soundtrack of the film is composed by Amit Trivedi.
