Vidhu Vinod Chopra is currently immersed in the promotions of Zero Se Start, a film that documents the making of his critically acclaimed 12th Fail and offers a behind-the-scenes look at Chopra in action as a director. During a recent interaction, the filmmaker opened up about his future projects, confirming that the sequels to his blockbuster films 3 Idiots and Munna Bhai are currently in the writing stage. He also hinted at a high possibility of these films being made in the near future.
Speaking to Dainik Bhaskar, Chopra revealed, “I am writing both 2 Idiots and Munna Bhai 3. On top of that, I am trying to make a film for kids. The film’s title hasn’t been decided yet. I am also writing a horror comedy, and it is very interesting. First, we will write for 1-2 years, and then it should be made. I think the possibility of 2 Idiots and Munna Bhai 3 is there soon.”
Explaining why he takes his time to finalize the scripts of his films, Chopra added, “I could have made 2-3 sequels of Munna Bhai and 3 Idiots. Bahut maal kama leta main (I could have earned loads of money), bought a big car and a big house. But if those weren’t good films, I wouldn’t have enjoyed talking about them because I would know that I compromised my conscience just to mint money.”
Zero Se Start had an impressive debut at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa before releasing in theatres on December 13. Meanwhile, Chopra’s last theatrical release, 12th Fail, turned out to be a sleeper hit. The film was highly praised by audiences and critics alike. Based on Anurag Pathak’s book, it chronicled the inspiring journey of IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma, played by Vikrant Massey, and his wife, IRS officer Shraddha Joshi, portrayed by Medha Shankar.
