As part of the retrospective, the next three days — January 26 to 28 — will showcase Irrfan’s most memorable films, including classics like ‘The Lunchbox,’ ‘Paan Singh Tomar,’ and Mira Nair’s ‘The Namesake,’ as well as audience favourites such as ‘Piku,’ ‘Qarib Qarib Singlle,’ and ‘Talvar.’

“I remember when he left us, my only desire was to celebrate him every day, in every way,” said writer-actress and Irrfan’s wife Sutapa Sikdar, adding, “What better way to remember him than celebrating his work.”

The retrospective has been put together by G5A Cinema House and filmmaker and G5A advisory council member Nikkhil Advani.

Crediting Irrfan for changing his approach as a director, he said, “If my film ‘D-Day’ (2013) is considered a milestone in my career, a large part of that has to be because of my collaboration with him. He makes every performance so lyrical and effortless. I am thrilled that we have been able to curate his most special films for the retrospective, and so grateful that every actor, director, producer, writer, and collaborator that I called said that they would be honoured to pay homage to such a consummate artist.”

Alongside the screening of films, the weekend will also feature readings of books penned about him, including ‘Irrfan: A Life in Movies’ by The Indian Express’ film critic and columnist Shubhra Gupta.
