Not slow but definitely steady— filmmaker Sudipto Sen’s controversial feature The Kerala Story has emerged as the second biggest hit of the year, surpassing the lifetime collections of Ranbir Kapoor-Shraddha Kapoor starrer Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar in less than two weeks.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, The Kerala Story recorded single digit collections for the first time since its opening day of Rs 8.03 cr, but was enough for it to cruise past the Rs 150 cr mark. On its second Tuesday, the film earned Rs 9.80 cr, taking its total to Rs 156.84 cr as per early estimates.
While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered an immediate ban on the screening of the controversial movie to avoid “any incident of hatred and violence”, The Kerala Story also benefited heavily from the support of the ruling BJP government.
