A bitter battle (via the media) has been in progress for weeks, either over an affair gone sour between actors Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan or over an imaginary relationship between the two actors being stretched to incredible lengths, depending on which version you believe.
There seems to be a momentary lull after the Mumbai cyber crime police recorded the statement of Kangana and her sister Rangoli on Saturday evening. Today, in the same newspaper where Roshan’s side of the story appeared for days last month is a report that Kangana will wear a Lebanese designer’s gown to the National Film Awards ceremony on Tuesday evening when she collects her Best Actress medal for Tanu Weds Manu Returns.
Who doesn’t love a winner? And, when the winner is someone as fashion forward as Kangana, the details of her dress arouses curiosity and her photo perks up an entertainment page. Media reports suggest that Kangana, after receiving her third National Award will head to Paris with Rangoli for some “retail therapy”. After Paris, she will go to her favourite holiday haunt, Switzerland, to enjoy some “me time” cycling and walking around. If true, the report indicates that in spite of the controversy and legal notices that the two actors have sent each other following Kangana’s statement about a “silly ex”, and several media reports portraying her in poor light, she is taking this mess in her stiletto-ed stride.
The truth of the controversy is for the police to unravel. However, what is remarkable is the way Kangana has held her ground so far and kept her cool. “My client Kangana Ranaut shall never succumb to any pressure. Some common people who had intervened had a fixed agenda of only scaring my client and hiding the truth, which could not happen,” said Rizwan Siddique, Kangana’s lawyer in a statement. Even as Roshan seemed eager to prove there was an “imposter” involved, Siddique in said in his statement that Kangana was “fully convinced that there is no imposter”.
Kangana is not new to controversy. She has been tackling them ever since she entered Bollywood at the age of 17. She has allowed her hard work and forthrightness to see her through the rough patches. Once at the receiving end of potshots taken for heavily-accented English, she went on to be an interviewer’s delight with her diction and tendency to call spade a spade.
For the legal battle between Kangana and Roshan to reach a logical conclusion, we have to wait for a while. This evening, however, we will watch the President of India reward the actress — someone who, like Datto in Tanu Weds Manu Returns is a fighter and has overcome many obstacles.
