Within moments of his birth, the youngest Nawab of the Pataudi family was trending on Twitter, courtesy his name, Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi. In a statement released to the media, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan broke the news saying, “We are very pleased to share with you all the wonderful news about the birth of our son: Taimur Ali Khan Pataudi, on the 20th of December 2016.”
Unlike Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput and Rani Mukerji and Aditya Chopra, Bebo and Saif didn’t christen their bundle of joy an amalgam of both their names. Though before the delivery, gossip mills have been abuzz that Kareena and Saif wanted to name their child, Saifeena.
The star couple gave all their fans a relief by not naming the child Saifeena, still ‘Taimur Ali Khan’ is a bit too much for the Twitterati to take. Within two hours of his arrival, the innocent infant has been trending on Twitter. Intrigued by the name, we tried to find out what exactly the name means. And this is what we found.
Taimur has a historic significance. The name seems to be derived from the name of the founder of Timurid empire, Timur (meaning Iron) also called Tamerlane. Timur was regarded as a military genius and a brilliant tactician. He was also considered extraordinarily intelligent – not only intuitively but also intellectually. The ruler referred to himself as the `Sword of Islam’ and converted much of his empire to the religion.
In his teen years, Timur lead a group of petty thieves who stole livestock from farmers and property from travellers and merchants. He grew up fighting the battles under the guidance of various Khans and Sultans.
Why are we not surprised on knowing a historic name for the star kid? Well, in a candid conversation with Neha Dhupia on her chat show, No Filter Neha, Kareena said, “Saif is a historian and would want a traditional old school name.”
