With Shah Rukh Khan’s Dilwale and Deepika Padukone’s Bajirao Mastani all set to lock horns at the box-office, it’s screen numbers that will ultimately ensure maximum footfalls at least in the first week after release. But with one master stroke movement that of roping in PVR as distributors of Dilwale, SRK has indirectly ensured a massive release for his film.
King Khan himself announced this decision at the song launch today (November 26) spoke of his long association with PVR boss Ajay Bijli recollecting a few anecdotes in his speech.
What was however interesting to know was whether Dilwale would have an edge over Bajirao Mastani in terms of screen numbers. When we quizzed Mr.Bijli on the same, the soft-spoken man opted for a diplomatic route. “I don’t think we have decided the distribution strategy. You end up wearing two hats as an exhibitor and as a distributor. As an exhibitor we will be playing movies we have only on 500 screens at that time. But these are big movies and they will probably end up playing in 3000 to 4000 screens. So it’s difficult to say. We haven’t done our calculations. Strategy gets made closer to the release date. So it is a bit too soon. But yes, both are very big films and this one (Dilwale) will also have a very big and wide release.”
