Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, who has directed films such as Masoom, Mr India and Bandit Queen, among others, once again talked about suffering from dyslexia, after first opening up about it in 2018 on social media. In a new Twitter post, Kapur shared that he has now developed a fondness for numbers with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Kapur, who often shares life lessons with his fans on Twitter, wrote, “Lessons of Life: I’m completely dyslexic. And finding more and more artists poets musicians suffer from dyslexia too. Are you? With #AI I’ve developed a love for visual mathematics, but in school developed a hatred for Maths…ofcourse ! With #dyslexia numbers made little sense.”
People on social media expressed their support and appreciation for him. One Twitter user commented, “Sir, what you lost with dyslexia, u gained with creativity! Who can EVER forget Phoolan Devi, Mr India and now WLGTDWI?? You were, are and will ALWAYZZ b a TRUE legend!! 🙏😊.” Another added, “Kudos for awareness and converting into Unfathomable creativity with rare sensitivity!”
In 2018, Shekhar Kapur had also opened up about having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). He had expressed gratitude for not being sent to a special school, as that would have hampered his creativity. The filmmaker had shared, “Lessons of Life : I am completely dyslexic and have intense ADD. I don’t know what else! Thank God there were no special schools for kids like me when I was growing up. They would have beaten out all the rebellion in me. Certainly would not have made any films. Or been creative.”
The filmmaker, who has had successful careers in India and Hollywood, recently returned to feature filmmaking after a gap of 16 years with the British romantic comedy What’s Love Got To Do With It?, starring Shabana Azmi, Emma Thompson, Lily James, Shazad Latif and Sajal Aly.
