Shark Tank’s Vineeta Singh highlights ‘real problem’ with Animal: ‘Extremely toxic character is allowed to get away with it’

She continued, “I feel the real problem with both these films, Kabir Singh and Animal, is that the toxic protagonists get away with it in the end. In India, we need that closure, we need to see the karma. We’ve grown up on the Mahabharata, this is what we believe in. Unfortunately, both these movies allow their extremely negative characters to get away with it. They’re beautifully shot, but… They aren’t made to suffer the consequences of their actions. Look at Shah Rukh Khan, he played so many dark characters, but it wasn’t the same, was it? He wasn’t celebrated. This is a small difference, but it’s relevant in India. In Hollywood, they can get away with open endings because the audience is nuanced.”

In post-release interviews, Vanga has repeatedly lashed out at the film’s critics, and suggested that there is a conspiracy to bring him down. “If everybody is going to focus just on the morality, we should stop making films. Let’s just make cartoons,” he said in an interview with Connect FM Canada. Also starring Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri and others, Animal has grossed nearly Rs 900 crore worldwide, and is the third-biggest Indian blockbuster of 2023, behind Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan. It is also the biggest A-rated film in history, and the biggest hit of Ranbir Kapoor’s career.
