It only goes to prove that an unbeatable combo Shah Rukh Khan,Deepika Padukone,Rohit Shetty – UTV,in this case combined with aggressive marketing,festive season Eid and of course,entertainment in colossal doses can do the trick.
At the speed it is running,Chennai Express has already overtaken the ‘weekend business’ of the biggest hit of the year so far,Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani by a huge margin.
Will it emerge the biggest grosser of the year? Will it surpass Ek Tha Tiger (198 cr) and 3 Idiots (202 cr) as well,in the domestic market?
Most importantly,will Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara throw a spanner? Where will its business settle eventually?
Chennai Express has come as a major booster for Shah Rukh Khan mainly. His last few films didn’t meet the expectations [talking in terms of business,although they did cross the 100 cr mark at the domestic BO. For Rohit Shetty and Deepika Padukone,well,the dream run continues,with Chennai Express adding to their glory. UTV too deserves kudos for giving it a super release,not just in India,but internationally too.
The actual test for Chennai Express will begin with the arrival of Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara on Thursday (15 August). The screen count will be reduced,while the audience will have one more biggie to look forward to.
A clearer picture will emerge over the next weekend,but one thing is for sure: This Express has set new benchmarks and the forthcoming biggies will have a tough time overpowering it and staking a claim for the top slot.
