Shah Rukh Khan has played many memorable and iconic roles during his illustrious career, and he is praised and appreciated for his skill as an actor every time he appears in front of the camera. One of his most celebrated performances came as the lead in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Devdas. Accompanied by actors like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit, Jackie Shroff and Kirron Kher, Shah Rukh played the precarious character of Devdas perfectly. Interestingly, Sikandar Kher, who is the son of Kirron, was working as an assistant director on the film and recently shared many stories from the sets in an interview.
In an appearance on the YouTube channel Tape A Tale, Kher shared many anecdotes from during his time on Devdas. “I remember saying that I wanted to shoot the making of the film because it was a big movie and there was a lot of buzz around it, like all of Sanjay’s pictures. People struggle to create a buzz around their film, but he can take his time making his movie, and there is always a buzz around it,” he said.

“I was struggling in procuring a handycam, and Shah Rukh gave me his own, and it was a very cool setup; it had various lenses and a tripod, and I ended up shooting 22 hours of footage. In the scene where Shah Rukh is breaking the bottles, he cut his finger, and I went in with my camera using the night vision and got that footage,” shared Kher.
He doubled down on his praise for Shah Rukh and described him as mind-blowing and phenomenal. “I have had firsthand experience of watching him work, and he is the most giving actor that I have seen. From what I have seen and heard from people, he is the most amazing person to be on set with. He is so secure within himself that he will give you his own lines just to make the scene work.”
There have been others who have appreciated Shah Rukh’s dedication, particularly during the filming of Devdas. Director Vikramaditya Motwane once shared how the actor applied honey to his face to attract flies so that he could emulate a dying man. “The man’s mind is constantly working to think how he can make the moment better. And that is Shah Rukh Khan. He does very small things in films that make a great difference. Plus, he makes everybody feel very special,” he shared with The Lallantop.
Sikandar Kher in recent years has proved his worth as an actor with roles in films like Monica O My Darling (2022) and Monkey Man (2024). He was last seen in the web series Chidiya Udd alongside Jackie Shroff and Flora Saini.
