Sanjay Leela Bhansali is leaving no stone unturned as far as research for his next magnum opus, Padmavati goes. Sources suggest the acclaimed director is extra careful and treading cautiously researching every minute detail of his prime characters, Alauddin Khilji, Rani Padmavati, Rana Ratan Singh of Mewar to make sure no unwanted problems arise during the film’s release as it occurred during Bajirao Mastani.
Says a source, “With Padmavati, the period that would be tracked is the late 13th and 14th century. Unlike Bajirao, this one is set in an even older era. Bhansali and his team is eyeing every minute detail of the era, the Khilji dynasty and the culture of Mewar from where Rani Padmavati belonged. They want to avoid any unneeded confrontation as it happened during Bajirao Mastani when certain clan members stood up in arms against the portrayal of Bajirao.”
For the moment, work is on in full momentum at Mehboob studios where from the past two weeks workers have been toiling hard to erect a huge palace set for the movie. One could see huge leaves being painted green something that would perhaps be used as embellishments inside the palace. In two weeks time, Bhansali is hoping to get the sets ready so as to start rolling by September. While major portions of the film will be shot in Mumbai, the director is also apparently looking at Filmcity for later portions of his shoot.
While Deepika has been finalised for Padmavati, there has been no clear word on who would play Allauddin Khilji and Rana Ratan Singh, the King of Mewar. Ranveer who is tipped to play Khilji’s role has been tight lipped about signing it though he has been seen visiting Bhansali’s office for discussions. Shahid Kapoor is another favourite who is believed to have bagged the role of Deepika’s husband in the film. Apart from directing and producing the film, Bhansali will also be composing music for Padmavati.
