Director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra did his best to capture the monsoon season of the unexplored parts of Ladakh while shooting for his upcoming movie ‘Mirziya’ starring newcomers Harshvardhan Kapoor and Saiyami Kher.

After shooting for his movie ‘Bhaag milkha Bhaag’ and an ad with Aamir Khan in Ladakh, the place wasn’t new to Mehra, until he went deeper into the city and shot at places where no film unit had gone till now.

The unit flew to Ladakh to shoot for the film in a pleasant weather, but it started raining as the shooting was on and instead of returning, the director planned to stay back and keep shooting in the monsoons. Even though there is electricity for only two hours in a day during this season, this did not hold him back from shooting.

Rakeysh’s spokesperson said, “Rakeysh, along with the unit had gone to shoot Mirziya when the weather was normal, but during the shoot, they experienced rains. Rakeysh used this opportunity to shoot Ladakh in the monsoon. People will see the region in a way they have not seen before — almost as if the director has tapped into the virgin locations of Ladakh in the rains and for the first time. It wasn’t an easy task to shoot, as the lights in the region remains for merely two hours in the day during monsoon and this made the shoot very difficult.”

The director further added, “I went back to shoot in Ladakh for Mirziya for the third time (after Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and the Athithi Devo Bhava ad with Aamir khan). For Mirzya, we went deeper into Ladakh where no film unit has gone before. The results are amazing and I can’t wait to see the edit.”

The movie which marks the debut of actress Sonam Kapoor’s brother Harshvardhan will release next year.
