A few days back, filmmaker Rakesh Roshan brought forward the release date of his home production, Kaabil. He shifted it to the evening of January 25 instead of the morning of Republic Day to avoid a clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s big ticket movie, Raees. But all his efforts were in vain as now the Raees makers have changed the date of their release to January 25 as well. This means that the SRK-starrer will go up against Yami Gautam and Hrithik Roshan film.
In an interview to DNA, the ace producer Rakesh Roshan expressed his anguish with this latest development. He said, “Whatever dates we are taking, they (Raees) are following us. I would have never done the same. I belong to an old school of filmmaking and I have given 50 years of my life to the industry. I would never release my film on a day when another filmmaker has already announced their film.”
Talking about the big clash a few days back, Hrithik Roshan appreciated Papa Roshan’s work ethics. He said that his father would never usurp a date that a colleague had already announced. Similar were the words of senior Roshan. “I decided to remove Krrish 4 also from Christmas 2018 because I saw SRK’s film is coming that day. I could have easily released my film with Befikre or even with Dangal if I had to clash. But when I announced the film in February, I saw a clean window in January and hence I picked the date. I can’t get into this new groove of things because I don’t understand it,” he added.
Asked about the big clash at the launch event, Shah Rukh Khan said, “We had discussed this a long time ago with our exhibitors and distributors. We will be opening in the regular shows and Kaabil will open in the evening shows. This is a logical decision because the 26th is a holiday. We had decided that we would reveal the release date only at the launch of the trailer.”
Since Rakesh Roshan and his distributors decided to release Kaabil on the evening of January 25, will they now stick to it or will they come out with the morning shows of the movie now? “It’s a full-fledged release on January 25 and not just paid previews. Now that the another film is following my release date, it’s up to my distributors to take a call – whether to release from 6 pm or right from the morning shows,” said Rakesh Roshan.
Rakesh Roshan, who announced his Republic Day release much in advance, was adamant on not changing the release date of his movie. He was a little miffed with the makers of Raees and was even heard saying that he does not care who comes or does not come, he will release his movie on the decided date. But, later he did change his mind and shifted his home production to January 25.
