Actor Rahul Roy, famous for his role in the 1990 musical blockbuster Aashiqui, had suffered a brain stroke in 2020, and was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Nanavati Hospital for medical treatment. The actor has now opened up about his experience at the hospital and revealed that none of his Bollywood colleagues, including Mahesh Bhatt, Pooja Bhatt, Manisha Koirala, Raveena Tandon or Karisma Kapoor, came to visit or called him during his time there.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Rahul was asked directly if either Mahesh Bhatt, who directed Aashiqui, or his daughter Pooja, called to ask after him. He said no, but added, “That’s ok.” His sister Priyanka, who was also a part of the interaction, added, “No one from his home also called. His twin brother, who was following up with me, called. But that’s ok. It’s been three and a half years and nobody from his family has yet called him or contacted him. When his own brother has not called, how can we expect from the stars.”

Recalling how Salman Khan came forward and helped them out financially, Priyanka said, “Salman did not know about his situation. But when he found out, he called.” Rahul added, “The pending bill of the hospital was cleared by Salman in February. He called and asked if he can be of any help and he helped. I am very thankful to him.” Priyanka said, “He never created a news out of it. This is not some kind of ceremony or award that you need to publish, I realised this man (Salman) is a gem.”

Priyanka and Rahul also said that the brain stroke could have been avoided if the film’s director, Nitin Gupta, had not neglected Rahul’s health. Priyanka also mentioned other actors who supported them and helped them during the crisis. Priyanka said, “There were one or two actors that came to meet. One of them was Aditi Govitrikar. Suchitra Pillai also came and she helped him.” Rahul said that he is doing much better now financially, but added, “I need work. If I get work, then I will be happy.’

Priyanka also recalled and said that when they received the news, she didn’t have enough money. They only had Rs 25,000, while the hospital initially asked for Rs 1 lakh for the treatment. They said that Salman cleared a bill for over Rs 2 lakh, and expressed their wish to pay him back.

There was a person known to Priyanka and her husband who contacted them, expressing a desire to meet Rahul. However, when this person arrived, he unexpectedly brought media representatives along. Nevertheless, Priyanka managed to arrange a video call with him on WhatsApp. During the video call, the individual took a screenshot without their permission. She said, “He was all wired up. Of course, it was his second day.”

Rahul made his Bollywood debut at the age of 22 with Aashiqui. He also worked with the Bhatts on films such as Junoon and Phir Teri Kahani Yaad Aayee. Rahul also won the first season of Bigg Boss in 2006.
