Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, who is in the midst of a controversy after a video featuring him beating up his student went viral on social media, has now claimed that Indians host their weddings abroad so they can invite Pakistani artistes to perform. Ever since the Uri attack back in 2016, there has been a blanket ban on Pakistani artistes performing in India. In a recent chat with YouTuber Adeel Asif, Rahat claimed that the Indian public wants artistes like him and Atif Aslam to perform at their weddings.
“Since we couldn’t travel to India, Indians… I would like to give them some credit, they started hosting their destination weddings in foreign countries because India does not allow Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Shafqat Amanat Ali, Atif Aslam to come in and perform. (They said) We will host our weddings outside so they can come and perform,” the singer said.
Rahat Fateh Ali Khan’s music was quite loved in India and despite the ban, his music continues to be widely popular amongst his fans. Following the ban, his songs in Salman Khan’s Dabangg 3 were replaced. In 2023, Bombay High Court rejected a cine worker’s plea after they sought a ban on Indian firms hiring Pakistani artistes. Supreme Court also backed the Bombay HC’s directives. However, Pakistani artistes have still not become a part of Indian movies.
Reportedly, Atif Aslam, who has sung many popular Bollywood numbers like “Dil Diyan Gallan”, “Tera Hone Laga Hoon” among many others, is gearing up for his Bollywood comeback. As per a report by Box Office Worldwide, Atif would be singing one song for the upcoming Bollywood film Love Story of 90s. “‘It is a very reassuring thing for Atif Aslam to make a comeback after 7-8 years. We are very happy because she has sung the first song in our film Love Story of 90s. Atif Aslam’s fans will be very thrilled. He is going to make a comeback in Bollywood through our film,” the producers told the portal.
