Priyanka, the performer:
Be it ‘Ram Chahe Leela’, ‘Galla Goodiyaan’ or ‘Raat Ke Dhai Baje’, there’s no stopping ‘Desi Girl’ Priyanka Chopra when it comes to ‘latkas’ and ‘jhatkas’.
Priyanka, the activist:
Priyanka Chopra often speaks out on women’s issues: against female infanticide and foeticide, and in support of education for girls. She is also seen as the brand ambassador for many de-addiction programmes and Telethons to raise funds for social issues.
Priyanka, the friend:
From her camaraderie with Anushka Sharma on the sets of ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ to her rapport for cousin Parineeti Chopra and her new found friendship with Sonakshi Sinha and her madness with Deepika Padukone on the sets of ‘Koffee With Karan’, Priyanka Chopra is the archetypal harbinger of camraderie in the Indian film industry.
In an industry famous for its catfights, Priyanka was seen celebrating 2014’s ‘Queen’ and Kangana Ranaut’s success. Priyanka and Kangana gave a party together, after Kangana won the National Award for ‘Queen’ and Priyanka’s movie ‘Mary Kom’ also won a National Award.
Priyanka and Kangana shared screen space in 2008’s ‘Fashion’ for which Priyanka won National Award for Best Actress and Kangana for Best Supporting Actress.
Priyanka was even reported to have celebrated Deepika Padukone’s father and ace Badminton player Prakash Padukone’s birthday when they were away in Malaysia for the IIFA event.
Priyanka, the fighter:
Priyanka Chopra has made it big in Bollywood without any mentor. With her perseverance and sheer talent, she has acquired the epithet of one of the most talented actresses in Indian cinema. But it hasn’t been an easy journey.
“I got thrown out of three films even after I signed them because some other actors were recommended and had to be accommodated. That really upset me. I was told on my face that I was being thrown out because so-and-so person had to be taken. It taught me the value of hard work and I have earned my place here through that,” Priyanka was once quoted as saying.
But as they say, talent is the ultimate merit. “The film industry has accepted me and there was a lot of struggle, but there are some amazing people who have accepted me on my merit,” Priyanka was quoted saying in another interview.
We wish the talented actress a very happy birthday and happier times ahead.
