Poonam Mahajan, Shah Rukh Khan, SRK Mannat, Poonam Mahajan BMC BJP MP Poonam Mahajan has submitted a written complaint to BMC, asking the civic body to demolish the ramp built outside Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow, Mannat in suburban Bandra.

Alleging that a ramp that has been illegally constructed outside a private bungalow in Bandra is causing a hindrance to local residents, Poonam Mahajan, the BJP MP from Mumbai North Central, has written to the city’s civic body asking for its demolition.

While the MP has refrained from mentioning the ownership of this private bungalow, local residents who have been protesting against the ramp for the past several years say it is built outside ‘Mannat’, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s plush residence off Bandstand.

“As per details provided by local citizens, there exists an illegal ramp on Cement Road. This ramp, said to have been constructed by one bungalow owner, is causing permanent obstruction to people accessing the public road. The ramp is known to be used by the bungalow owner to park his private heavy motor vehicle,” Mahajan wrote to Sitaram Kunte, municipal commissioner at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in a letter dated January 29.

The Watchdog Foundation, a citizens’ group spearheaded by advocate Godfrey Pimenta and local activist Nicolas Almedia, too has sent written complaints on several occasions to the BMC seeking action on the construction outside Shah Rukh Khan’s bungalow that is obstructing the road for the public. Cement Road connects Bandstand to the Mount Mary Road and hence a large number of people frequently use this road to visit the Mount Mary Church.

Mahajan added that a recent proposal of the BMC to shorten the width of the road to 6.15 metre from the current 9.15 metre will cause further inconvenience, and hence along with the demolition she has also asked for the road narrowing proposal to be cancelled.

Vijay Kamble, assistant municipal commissioner, H West ward, said the BMC is still reviewing the complaint and has not taken any action yet.
