‘Naseeruddin Shah said I had in my blood, I couldn’t keep quiet’: Anupam Kher on their face-off over politics, says they recently ‘hugged each other’

Anupam Kher opened up about his equation with his A Wednesday co-star Naseeruddin Shah after their 2020 controversy where the latter called Kher a "clown" and "sycophant".

Anupam Kher and Naseeruddin Shah, both alums of the National School of Drama, starred together in several movies including the 2008 film A Wednesday. In the movie, Naseeruddin plays a common man who is disappointed in the incompetence of the governing authorities and metes out vigilante justice, while Anupam plays the Commissioner of Mumbai Police. In real life too, Naseeruddin Shah is known for being vocal and sharing his political views. In one of the interviews in 2020, while defending Deepika Padukone’s move of supporting the students in JNU, Naseeruddin Shah called Anupam Kher, a “clown” and “sycophant”, which sparked a controversy as well as a war-of-words between the two co-stars.
