No actress who debuted with Salman Khan ever went the bold way until Zareen Khan and Daisy Shah broke the norm by shedding their inhibitions for their upcoming movie ‘Hate Story 3’. In an exclusive conversation with The Indian Express.com, Zareen Khan talks about her new-found bold avatar and Salman Khan.
Ques: How did Hate Story 3 happen?
Zareen: It happened out of the blue. Bhushan Kumar (T-series) is a friend. He called me and said that there is this amazing script and he would like to have me onboard. He was himself skeptical if I would do the bold scenes. So, he asked me to take the narration and then decide. I was myself skeptical about doing the bold scenes and ate Vishal’s (director) head by asking him to tell me in details about the bold scenes.
Ques: So, what made you finally say yes to the bold role?
Zareen: My mom has a chilled out attitude. When I was having difficulties convincing myself, I told my mother about it. She is the only person whose opinions matter to me in my life. So, I told her that I have been offered this movie and there are these bold scenes and if I should do it? And she said yeah, do it. What’s is the big deal? It’s there in every movie these days. That gave me the push. And she is right. In every movie nowadays we see such scenes where people are kissing. May be the way we have shown in ‘Hate Story 3’ is a little bolder but it has nothing that is not happening in any other films.
Ques: Was it difficult filming these scenes?
Zareen: It wasn’t difficult shooting the love scenes. Initially, I was wondering how I would do it in front of so many people on sets. But Vishal and his team were very good and they made the atmosphere very comfortable. So, it wasn’t difficult at all. Infact, if you see the making of those scenes, it will look like a comedy movie.
Ques: How did you break the ice with Sharman Joshi before shooting the love making scenes?
Zareen: I am very talkative. So, breaking the ice is no big deal for me. On sets too, all of us were very chirpy and talkative. Sharman doesn’t talk much but ultimately he had no option but to talk.
Ques: What did Salman have to say about your bold avatar?
Zareen: Salman didn’t know for the longest that I am doing ‘Hate Story 3’. I was in fact scared to discuss this with him.
Ques: Because of the scenes?
Zareen: Yes, because I know his school of thought and I knew it would not be a great idea to discuss this with him.
Ques: But Daisy Shah mentioned that it was Salman who encouraged her to do this movie…
Zareen: (Cuts in) I don’t know about Daisy. I am very scared of Salman and intimidated by him. My talkative behaviour disappears and I am a very different person when Salman is in front of me.
Ques: Do you have any limits as far as boldness goes. Are there any dos and don’ts?
Zareen: My dos and don’ts don’t matter because we have to set our limits as per the Censor Board today.
Ques: Do you think we are still conservative when it comes to sex?
Zareen: We are hypocrites, not conservative. We love watching it but we just want to pretend otherwise. Today, every other movie has these scenes. Also, these are things that we do in real life. There is a whole real connect to these scenes.
Hate Story 3 also starring Sharman Joshi, Karan Singh Grover and Daisy is all set to release in December 2015.
