Circa 2011, the dashing Mahendra Singh Dhoni smashed a six to seal off India’s scintillating World Cup victory. Five years later, the reel life Dhoni aka Sushant Singh Rajput is gearing up for one of the landmark films of his career -M S Dhoni: The Untold Story. The buzz is huge, anticipation is in the air and viewers are ready to scream their guts out. Now what remains to be seen is if the reel Dhoni can deliver as well as the real one. Let’s take a look at the pitch report of MS Dhoni: The Untold story.
With the movie being the only big solo Hindi film release, multiplexes and single screens have reserved almost every screen to beam the film. The movie will reportedly release on more than 3000 plus screens. An average of dozen screens per multiplex have been booked to screen Dhoni. Given the dismal run of Banjo and other films releases last week, Dhoni is all set to take a flying start on the weekend. The movie has also been dubbed in Tamil and Telugu which will only double the collections in the South market. The non-release in Pakistan will hardly make a difference as collections from other international markets will even out things for the producers.
The story never told
If the makers are not to be believed, the movie will showcase the journey of Dhoni that has never been told before. We may know Dhoni the cricketer but facets of his life including his personal life (his ex-girlfriend and wife) which have hitherto never been told will be laid out on celluloid. Now that should be an interesting watch.
Combination of Neeraj Pandey and Sushant Singh Rajput
The duo have never worked together and that makes the pair even more interesting. Pandey comes with a backlog of blockbuster hits but this is the first time he has paired up with a non-superstar actor. Given Pandey’s penchant of weaving unusual subjects into commercial hits, Dhoni should be an exciting one to watch out for. For Sushant, the movie will be a litmus test to prove his worth. After two successive flops, the actor would be itching to make a comeback in a big way and Dhoni could well be the platform for him to establish himself as a top-notch commercial star.
The publicity centred around the movie has worked extremely well to keep it buzzing in its run-up to its release. With Dhoni himself reaching out to the masses both in India and abroad, one can expect viewers to flock in hordes on the opening day.
Blessing of God Rajinikanth
Rajinikanth has blessed Dhoni and his movie. Do we need to say more?
