Filmmakers Madhur Bhandarkar and Navdeep Singh who were supposed to visit Pakistan to participate in Rafi Peer International Film Festival to be held from April 23 to April 25, has apparently been cancelled. In fact the duo who were initially expected to visit Pakistan, where their films ‘Chandni Bar’, ‘Page 3’, ‘Corporate’, ‘Manorama Six Feet Under’ and ‘NH10’ were going to be screened as part of a cultural exchange programme.
Commenting on the cancellation of their visit, a source states that the stress between the two countries is the cause of cancellation. Especially after the Mumbai Terror attack suspect Lakhvi was released few days back, the authorities in Pakistan anticipated security issues and hence didn’t give the permission for the event where people from India were going to be present.
Apparently, Madhur and Navdeep were to be a part of the Rafi Peer International Film Festival, where Madhur was to be honored for making films with strong female characters. Commenting on the same Santanu Ganguly, the film festival curator says, “We had made all the arrangement and in fact with the help of authorities in Pakistan, the visas were also ready. The idea of the film festival was to promote cultural exchange between India and Pakistan through films of both the countries, but now the whole festival has been cancelled.”
