On Tuesday, her team released a statement about her health that read, “Her parameters are good. Honestly speaking, she has fought so well that she is coming out of this setback. Being a singer, her lung capacity has pulled her through. Truly a fighter. We will update everyone when Lataji gets discharged and comes home. (We) request that we give the family the space they deserve at the moment.”
On Monday, hospital sources told PTI that she was admitted after she complained of breathing difficulties. However, Lata Mangeshkar’s niece Rachana Shah told indianexpress.com, “Not critical. In fact stable and recovering. She was down with a viral infection. On path of recovery. She will be fine soon. We could have treated her at home. But we decided to get her to the hospital. It’s close to our home plus treatment is thorough.”
The 90-year-old singer is an icon of Indian cinema and has contributed tremendously to Indian film music through her magical voice.
Lata Mangeshkar is a recipient of three National Film Awards, Dadasaheb Phalke Award and Bharat Ratna among other honours.
