Kirron Kher told son Sikandar that she would’ve opened a ‘petrol pump’ for him if she thought he was a bad actor

Actor Sikandar Kher opened up about restarting his career after a long dry phase, during which he didn’t make much of an effort to find work. One day, he said in a new interview, he was possessed by some kind of ‘fire’, and he ended up sending messages to several people in the film industry, requesting them to consider him for roles. Sikandar said that during all this, his mother Kirron Kher and stepfather Anupam Kher didn’t put in a good word on his behalf, despite their connections in the film industry.

He said in an interview with Siddharth Kannan that his mother reassured him when he was starting out that he can, in fact, act. Asked if it ever struck him that his dreams of becoming a superstar didn’t pan out, he said, “It’s not like people came up to me and told me, ‘You didn’t make it’. They might have been thinking it, but nobody said it to me thankfully. I was chilling. Luckily, people were always nice to me. They’d tell me I’d done well, not that I’d believe them. I only believe what I hear at home, from my mother, who’s very honest with me. She actually told me once that I can act, all I need to do is keep working hard. ‘We would’ve set up a petrol pump for you if you couldn’t act,’ she said.”

Sikandar said that he has never asked either Kirron or Anupam to make a call on his behalf. “It’s not like they advise me about scripts. They’re actors themselves, they know that actors need to make their own mistakes. They also don’t want to be in a position where they’ve advised me to a do a film and the film flops. They are also smart. This is your journey, bro. When you’re successful, it’s amazing, and if something doesn’t work, it’s heartbreaking. Be aware of that,” he said.

Sikandar made his acting debut in 2008, with the film Woodstock Villa. After several years of declining popularity, he bounced back with supporting roles in streaming projects such as Aarya and Monica, O My Darling. He said that all he wants to do is keep acting, and that the streaming industry has created a lot of jobs for actors, directors and writers.
