Actress-turned-writer Twinkle Khanna has revealed that filmmaker Karan Johar was in love with her when they were together in boarding school.
Karan Johar confessed his love for his childhood friend Twinkle. He said she is the only ‘woman’ whom he has loved till date.
Twinkle had her repartee ready and said that when they were in boarding school (where they studied together) it was her baby moustache that Karan loved the most found it very hot. A slightly embarrassed Karan replied: “I will slap you 377 times.”
“Karan has confessed that he was in love with me. I had a little moustache at that time and he used to look at that and say ‘That’s hot, I like your moustache’,” said Twinkle, during the unveiling of her book “Mrs Funnybones” recently.
“We were in boarding school together and he was constantly hungry for some reason. So he kept telling me to rob food for him from the canteen. Finally, I got fed up and told him ‘why don’t you run away? I can’t rob more food for you’.
“We were at the end of a hill, so I said ‘roll down the hill, get a boat from there and run away’. He rolled down the hill but they caught him and they made him climb back, which took him two hours and they made him an example in the assembly making him stand next to the principal as a fugitive.”
Karan Johar completed the incident by saying: “And the principal said ‘Will you do what this boy has done?’ I was made some sort of a guinea pig at that stage and it was the most humiliating experience of my life. And I was all of 12 years old.”
He said he was traumatised after the incident because of Twinkle, and recalled pleading in front of his parents to remove him from the school.
Karan Johar told Aamir Khan that it was the same school where his film “Taare Zameen Par” was shot.
Karan also blamed her, in good homour, for breaking his heart as well.
“And of course, my heart was broken years later when she refused my debut film ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’. She proclaims she did me a favour by doing so because she actually went on and helped Rani Mukherjee who finally ended up doing the part,” he said.
Speaking about the writer in Twinkle, Karan said there was “no shock or surprise” that she went on to become a popular figure so soon.
“There was no shock or surprise that she went on to become such a popular cult figure on the pop culture writing so soon. In all, she made a huge impact with her columns in DNA and subsequently her book comes out which is worth more than just reading. It’s like entertainment unplugged, just like Twinkle Khanna always is,” he sad.
Twinkle’s debut book ‘Mrs FunnyBones’ finds humour, from a woman’s perspective, in the state of women in India.
Present at the launch were eminent Bollywood personalities including husband Akshay Kumar, mother Dimple Kapadia, Karan Johar, Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre, and Jaya Bachchan.
