After trying their hand at acting, and gaining stardom, the ladies of B-town are now starting their own production houses. While entertaining us with great films, music, and masala romance on screen, they are also going behind the camera too, to produce great content. Recently Kangana Ranaut too bought a place in Mumbai to start her own production house, Manikarnika Films. Here is a look at other ladies of Bollywood who have recently turned producers.
The ‘Queen’ actor recently bought a property in Mumbai, worth Rs 20 crore to start her own production house. The registration for the property was done in September and she will soon be using her new space as her office. Kangana will be working as a director too, for her next film ‘Teju’. We can imagine her holding the credits of being the director, actor and producer of the film simultaneously.
Priyanka Chopra started her production house, Purple Pebble Pictures in 2015. In the year 2016, she produced her first regional film, ‘Ventilator’ which won three National Awards in 2017. While making her presence in Hollywood, the actor has also been producing regional films simultaneously, with her mother, Madhu Chopra who is also one of the heads of the company. Her other projects as a producer of include, a Punjabi film, ‘Sarvann’ and a Sikimese film, ‘Pahuna’.
After doing a handful of blockbusters, Anushka Sharma too tried her hand at producing films. Her debut as a producer was in ‘NH10’. Her second outing had been ‘Phillauri’ co-starring Diljit Dosanjh.
Last November, it was reported that Akshay Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan will be seen on screen in R Balki’s directed movie, after 10 years. Twinkle Khanna, is now set to produce ‘Padman’ with her production house launch – Mrs Funnybones Movies. The film also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte. Previously she had worked as a co-producer and produced as many as 14 films.
Richa Chadha made her debut as a producer with a Punjabi short film which released digitally on a major streaming platforms. The ‘Masaan’ actor, produced the film ‘Khoon Aali Chithi’. It got selected for International Film Festival of South Asia, Toronto.
After winning a National Award for her performance in ‘Neerja’, she will soon be working as a producer and her first film would be ‘Battle of Bittora’. Sonam Kapoor was expected to reunite with his ‘Khubsoorat’ co-star Fawad Khan, but the project was kept on hold. She is presently shooting for ‘Veerey Di Wedding’ which is being produced by her sister, Rhea Kapoor.
