Here’s a curtain raiser to the coveted Screen trophy Here’s a curtain raiser to the coveted Screen trophy.

Every year for over two decades now, Screen has been celebrating films for their content, technique and performances.

The nominations for the 21st Annual Life OK Screen Awards have sprung up a few surprises. What’s heartening is that in 2014, the heroines didn’t play second fiddle to the their male counterparts.

While Queen wears the crown, bagging the highest nominations (13), Highway, Mardaani and Kick were a close second with 10 nominations each. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider, set against the backdrop of the Kashmir issue, was nominated in nine categories whereas the biopic Mary Kom earned seven nominations. Big budget films, riding on star power, however, lagged behind as indie-spirited films such as Ugly and Ankhon Dekhi rubbed shoulders with the big-ticket PK, bagging eight nominations each.
