Imtiaz Ali looks at the failure of his last release ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’ as a “kabhi khushi kabhi gham” (sometimes there’s happiness, sometimes there’s sorrow) moment. Featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma, the film received mixed reviews upon its release but ultimately did not do well at the box office. When asked how he took the failure of the film, Ali smiled and said, “Kabhi khushi kabhi gham.”
The film which was a romantic comedy revolved around the characters of Harry played by Shah Rukh and Sejal played by Anushka and the film’s premise had these two characters looking for Sejal’s lost engagement ring. The love story of the couple, however, failed to charm the audience. The two actors had previously starred together in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ (2008) and ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ (2012).
The director, who attended the opening ceremony of Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival here last night, said he was looking forward to watching Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Mukkabaaz’. Imtiaz Ali said that he has “written a new story” and is “trying to figure out which film to make next.”
The boxing drama, ‘Mukkabaaz’, opened the festival. “I am excited to see what Anurag has done with ‘Mukkabaaz’. I’ve seen some excerpts of it and that’s occupying my mind now. I am also looking forward to lots of international and regional films, which one doesn’t get to see in the cinema,” he said.
Imtiaz Ali has given some blockbusters like ‘Highway’, ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Jab We Met’.
