Imran Khan says he hand-customised a Volkswagen Polo after selling Ferrari, taught himself 3D modelling and designed his new house

He continued, “So, I designed, and have just completed building a house out in Karjat. I work without an architect. I taught myself 3D modelling, I got the software and designed the thing. I spent a year going to the property, after we’d purchased it, to track the movement of the sun. Different times of day, different times of year. I spent one year, 2021, tracking the movement of the sun, to see how the light would be. I worked with a contractor and a structural engineer, but the design and the 3D model I built.”

Imran also opened up about his obsession with cars, and his realisation about material things. “I’ve always been into cars, and I always fantasised that I would be that guy who could open the hood and… I spent a lot of time on Reddit, on Team BHP, and I dove into the thing. I ditched the fancy, expensive cars, and I bought myself a Volkswagen Polo. I have a fully kitted-out Polo GT with wheels, custom suspension, custom exhaust system… I swapped out internal system and got third-party paddle shift… I spent the last four years doing this.”

Imran said that he once owned a Ferrari, but let it go because he realised that it didn’t mean anything to him and he couldn’t drive it around Mumbai anyway. “I was 30-31, I was a recent father, I lived in this grand, beautiful house. I had these expensive cars. All of these should have made me very happy, but I felt like sh*t. So, bit by bit, those were the things I started to shed. Genuinely, I have gotten more pleasure out of working on my Volkswagen Polo than I would get from the monthly drives that I’d do in my Ferrari.”
