Veteran actress Saira Banu expressed her joy after her superstar husband Dilip Kumar was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian honour at the hands of Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Maharashtra governor His Excellency Vidyasagar Rao and Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis in Mumbai on Sunday (December 13).
“I am the proudest wife in the world today. It’s both an emotional, proud and happy moment for me. If you ask whether the award was delayed in being conferred, I would say yes it was but then for Dilip saab the greatest award and reward is the love of all his fans that he has been fortunate to receive for many decades now,” said Saira Banu. When we asked if she wished to see Dilip Kumar being conferred the Bharat Ratna as well, Saira Banu said, “Materialistic awards don’t really matter much to Dilip saab. He is humility personified and has always remained modest about his achievements. Whether it is the Padma Vibhushan or Bharat Ratna, for Dilip saab it is the love of the people that matters most to him.”
Saira Banu also expressed her utmost thanks to the ministers and governor for taking time out to personally come and honour her husband at their residence this afternoon.
