Actor Hrithik Roshan and Sussane Khan ended their 14-year marriage by mutual consent on Saturday, with a family court granting them divorce.
The proceedings were over in less than 15 minutes inside the chamber of the Laxmi P Rao, Principal Judge of Bandra family court. The two, through separate statements, announced their separation in September, 2013.
Khan’s lawyer Mrinalini Deshmukh confirmed that the divorce was through mutual consent. “The divorce is done. The matter is over. Everything was decided between the two parties in a fair and amicable manner. That is it,” said Deshmukh.
As per their divorce petition, filed on April 30, the legal custody of the two minor children, Hrehaan (8) and Hridhaan (6), will be held jointly by the duo as per the convenience of the children. “The physical and primary custody of the two children shall be with Sussane Khan,” the petition read.
The duo also arrived at out-of-court settlements regarding alimony, residence and permanent maintenance of estranged wife Khan, read the divorce petition. As reasons for the split, the estranged couple maintained in the divorce petition that “irreconcilable differences” arose between the two “on account of temperamental differences, making it impossible for them to live together”.
“The petitioners state that thereafter innumerable efforts have been made by them and their family and friends to sort out their differences, however, the same proved futile,” the petition further stated.
Advocate and Solicitor Dipesh Mehta, who was close to the Roshan family, had appeared for the actor. “Hrithik had been occupied with the matter. He has been quite upset about it, right from the beginning,” Mehta said.

Reports had suggested that Sussane, who is an established designer, had demanded close to Rs 400 crore from her former husband as alimony. The actor had reportedly agreed to pay Rs 380 crore in settlement. Deshmukh refused to confirm the alimony amount.
The childhood friends had tied the knot in December 2000.The couple, however, parted ways after Khan left their shared apartment in Juhu in January, 2013.
In his statement, Roshan had said that Sussane decided to walk out of their 13-year-old marriage. “This is my greatest tribute to love. Sussane is and always will be the love of my life for the rest of my life. If her smiles are brighter without me, my love for her must accomplish that,” Hrithik had written on his Facebook page.
Sussane said, “We are two individuals who respect and care for each other and have made our own individual choices. We are parents to two wonderful children and our responsibility remains to protect and take care of them.”
