One of the biggest challenges for Emraan Hashmi after signing Azhar was the physical transformation that he had to undergo to look his part as the former Indian cricketer. For starters, he had to wear an almost four-inch big sole inside his shoes to acquire Azhar’s height.
Talking to IndianExpress.com, Emraan said, “I am 5’8 and Azhar bhai is almost 6’1. I had to wear a four inch sole inside my shoes to get the height. I played cricket wearing those shoes.”
Emraan’s next big challenge was to learn to walk like Azhar. For this Emraan spent time keenly observing Azhar’s walking style and other bodily mannerisms.
“He walks with his right shoulder down and head slightly tilted. He barely looked up. I used to keep looking at him to imbibe those things,” said Emraan.
The most challenging bit for Emraan however was getting a face that resembled Azhar. The actor initially flew down to London to get some facial tests done using prosthetic make-up. A look was designed that structured Emraan’s face including his nose to look like Azhar. However the idea of using prosthetics was dropped after the team realised that the make-up wouldn’t hold good while playing in the heat of Hyderabad. The team then decided to opt for the traditional way that including combing Emraan’s hair in a manner that gave the impression of a receding hairline that Azhar had as he grew older.
The one major material prop that Emraan used in his Azhar avatar was clips that were stuck behind his ears. “His ears are bigger than mine. So I used to have clips behind so they ears jutted out,” revealed Emraan.
