Sonam Kapoor was the one who introduced this Pakistani actor to the Indian silver screen. And while the film’s trailers kept us intrigued about this new face on the Indian screens, we saw him again on the newly launched channel Zindagi’s flagship shows Humsafar, Zindagi Gulzar Hai and Dastaan. After spending a lot of time on Google, it became clear that this man from across the border is married and very successful in his home country. While the world saw him playing a prince in his Bollywood debut, his slowly but rapidly increasing fan base in India kept discovering more about who this man is, and where exactly he comes from.
Fawad Afzal Khan was the lead singer of a rock band called Entity Paradigm. And before he became the best Pakistani export to India, he was already the biggest name in Pakistani entertainment industry. Let’s not delve into the entire controversy around Fawad and his return to Pakistan recently. Rather, we would want to stick to him, and only him in this write-up. As this man turns 35 today, here are 8 reasons why India wants Fawad Khan back.
1. He redefined the image of a Bollywood actor, sans any six pack
Fawad Khan entered Bollywood at a time when we were burdened with steroid-pumped six packs and actors on protein diets. Fawad was of an average height, had a lean frame and boy-next-door charm. But this was enough to make us forget all our body-builder heroes.
2. His eyes do the talking
With those big brooding eyes, Fawad could find his way into any heart. Every emotion onscreen found its vent through his eyes that easily connected with his fans. As they say, when it doesn’t reflect in your eyes, it isn’t conveyed well. And Fawad’s are so deep, anyone can drown in them!
3. He acts with conviction
If you just manage to survive through those eyes, Fawad ends up giving a stellar performance too. He has a range of expressions and makes every character come to life. The way he played a homosexual man in Kapoor & Sons was immensely convincing.
4. He romances like there is no tomorrow
The way he looks at his leading ladies is out of this world. He might not be singing songs for them or holding hands, but with his eyes alone, he can steal hearts. Can we forget the way he steals glances at Mahira Khan in the rain sequence of Humsafar?
5. He can even play a guitar
Every woman desires her man to know how to strike the perfect chord and Fawad can do it effortlessly. He is a singer, he can play the guitar and we got a glimpse of both when he hummed in Kapoor And Sons.
6. And that smile cannot be missed
He doesn’t have any dimples. Nor does he flirt onscreen. But still we rate his smile as one of the best we have seen. Mercy. Look at that face!
7. We love his voice, and accent too
He has a voice to die for. Accepted he has a tinge of accent but blame it on his upbringing in Dubai and Manchester. But we have no issues with that. Till the time his words are flowing, language (and accent) is not a bar. Hear him when he speaks, and we dare you for not feeling lost!
8. He can steal the show even in a cameo
How much can you blame the other actors when Fawad can own the entire scene even if it is a special appearance? Such is his appeal that we heard director Karan Johar had to stretch his small part in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil into a full-fledged cameo. Oh, that crisp white kurta-pyjama and Fawad dancing in it on the song ‘Cutie Pie’. Sorry Ranbir!
