Chetan Bhagat shares why Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor-starrer Half Girlfriend is special to him

Author Chetan Bhagat has turned producer for Half Girlfriend and he says he is pretty excited about the project, which is being directed by Mohit Suri.

It stars Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, and is being directed by Mohit Suri.

Actors Arjun Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor are on a busy schedule wrapping up the last leg shooting of their upcoming film Half Girlfriend. While the two keep their fans excited with the images and behind-the-scenes sneak-peek from the sets, the more exciting part will be to see how Mohit Suri will shape the film on the celluloid. The film, which is an adaptation of author Chetan Bhagat’s book by the same name, will have Arjun and Shraddha teaming up and romancing for the first time onscreen. Bhagat, who is also the co-producer of the film is equally thrilled too. And why not? After all, it is his fifth book which will have a Bollywood film on it.

In an exclusive chat with, author Chetan Bhagat explained why Half Girlfriend was special. “Half Girlfriend is going great and only 20 days are left for its shoot. The crew is keeping the vision of the film in relation to the book. Mohit (Suri) is great at his job. Being a producer gives me the chance to be more close to the film and it also takes me back to my banking days”, he said.

Bhagat has been lucky to have a trail of successful novels and the films adapted from his books. From One Night @ the Call Center to Half Girlfriend, every story has found a life on silver screen. Most of them have been highly successful at the box office too. Infact, Kai Po Che, which was based on The 3 Mistakes of My Life, received a lot of critical acclaim too. And now with Half Girlfriend, Bhagat has turned producer and is extremely excited about it. “I believe in giving the directors their freedom of how they turn an excerpt from the book into a scene. As a producer, I just keep in mind to get a good director on board. But I am sure I am not going to take up directing, ” he said.

While the wordsmith has been lucky with his books and its adaptation, his tweets are getting him into the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Recently, the 2 States writer was trolled for his promotional video for his new book One Indian Girl, in which he mentioned that to understand women better, he decided to wax his body hair and salutes them for their courage to go through the pain regularly. “I have written a lot of posts about what all I have done to do a research for this book and in one of those posts, I mentioned that I waxed my legs and felt a lot of pain. I just wanted to share it as a fun anecdote. Men do not know most of the things a woman go through as a societal norm. I am trolled for everything. Twitter has more of negatives than positives. I just expressed what I felt and people are overreacting to it, so what can I do?,” he said about all the reactions he got on Twitter.

Talking about his book and the research that went behind it, Chetan said this is the first time that he has written a book on a first person account and from a woman’s perspective. To understand a woman’s psyche, he said he interviewed over 100 working woman. The book was recently launched by actor Kangana Ranaut in Mumbai. Kangana even tweeted about the book and said it left her “teary eyed.”

Bhagat’s next adapted book Half Girlfriend, also stars which stars Rhea Chakraborty, Seema Biswas and Vikrant Massey, and is scheduled to hit the screens on May 19, 2017.
