Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja recently opened up about their marriage and how she managed to stay strong and secure when Govinda was receiving umpteen attention from his female fans and co-stars. Sunita recalled that she saw female fans faint after screaming his name at concerts and said that a hero’s wife has to let go of a lot of things to sustain their marriage. She added that things might have been happening around them, but Govinda came back to her.

“To be a hero’s wife, aapko dil mein itna bada patthar rakhna padega ya toh aap shadi na karo hero se (you have to have a heart of stone or you don’t marry a hero),” Sunita shared on Timeout With Ankit podcast. When asked if she ever felt insecure knowing her husband was sought after by many women, Sunita said that things could have been happening but it never bothered her as he always came back to her every night.

She said, “Mereko farak nahi padta (It didn’t affect me). You have to be very confident in yourself. Abhi aadmi hai voh, aap aisa nahi bol sakte gaay hai koi aadmi. Hota hoga. Theek hai na, ghoom fir ke raat ko ghar hi aa jata hai na. (He is a man. You can’t say he is a cow. Things might be happening. It is okay, he came back home at night.)”

When asked if she used to travel with Govinda when he was shooting abroad. Sunita said, “Tina was small, then school started, so I used to hardly travel.” When asked if she ever felt proud of Govinda, Sunita said she was too naive at the time to understand his superstardom. “I didn’t have enough sense to be proud. I was just 20-21 at the time. You don’t know much about life then. Kids today might understand but we were very naive,” she said.

Govinda and his wife Sunita have been together for almost four decades now. The couple tied the knot in 1987 and kept their marriage secret for almost two years.
