Sunny Deol-starrer Gadar 2 crossed the Rs 400 crore mark a few days ago, and now, as the film enters its third week, the film’s collections are starting to slow down. After opening with Rs 40.1 crore on August 11, the film’s collections have consistently stayed in the double digits, but on its 14th day of release, the film saw its daily collection dip into single-digits. On Thursday, Gadar 2 made Rs 8.20 crore, taking its domestic nett collection to Rs 418.90 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.
Gadar 2 had an excellent first week at the box office, which also included an extended weekend due to the national holiday of Independence Day. In fact, on August 15, the film reached its peak as it made Rs 55.4 crore at the domestic box office. With Ayushmann Khurrana’s Dream Girl 2 releasing in theatres on Friday, Gadar 2’s collections might witness a further dip.
The Anil Sharma film is the second-highest Hindi grosser of the year of the year after Pathaan, which made Rs 543.05 crore during its run. The Sunny Deol film is still Rs 124.15 crore behind the Shah Rukh Khan film, and with its collections dropping down to single digit figures and other releases coming into the theatres, it seems unlikely that Gadar 2 will be able to overtake Pathaan. Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan is also set to release on September 7, when Gadar 2 will likely lose its screens.
Gadar 2 is the sequel to 2001’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which also starred Sunny and Ameesha Patel. In a recent interview, director Anil Sharma revealed that he made the film in Rs 60 crore and given that the film has made almost seven times its investment, it certainly makes it the biggest hit of the year.
Gadar 2 also starred Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, and Manish Wadhwa, among others.
