Nawazuddin Siddiqui starer Freaky Ali is set to release today. People have loved the trailer and are looking forward to watch the film.
How did Freaky Ali happen?
Sohail Khan gave me a one liner. He told me about a simple boy who becomes a golf champion. I thought the concept is new, it will work and I said yes for the film. He then wrote the story, added dialogues and then we started the shooting.
We saw you playing cricket in one scene and then golf, so are you into sports or was it new to you?
To be honest, I had never heard about golf before. I learned it. Delhi golfer Siddharth Arora trained me.
Tell us something about the character.
As the name tell, this guy is freaky in every possible way. The way he works is actually freaky. From selling ‘chaddian’ to extortion, he adds his freaky trait in everything. He just cannot work straight, but he has an inherent talent to swing. He is not like the regular golfers but he manages to put the golf ball in the hole.
How was it to work with Arbaaz Khan?
It was amazing. We both share great chemistry. He is a realistic actor. Sohail and Arbaaz bhai’s humor added to the film.
You once said that Salman Khan was keen to play a part in the film, then why he is not in the movie?
Sohail Bhai did not want him to be a part of the film. Salman bhai has ‘larger than life’ image. He has his own fan following, If he was there, the movie would have been all about him. Sohail bhai wanted to make a simple movie.
Tell us about your favorite scene.
Well, it will be the one where I am romancing Amy Jackson. In my previous film, Babumoshai Bandookbaaz, my lover runs away. So I got the chance to romance after a long time. All thanks to Sohail bhai. I just want to do romantic films for at least 5 years now.
How difficult was it for you to bring out the chemistry with Amy Jackson?
It was difficult. I am playing a romantic role for the first time. Somehow I managed to do it. Hope everyone will like it.
People have always appreciated your work. How does it feel?
I feel that all this craze, appreciation should multiply. I work hard for every role. Thanks a lot to people who give me so much love. I hope they all will go to the theater to watch the film.
How was your journey in this industry till now? Was it difficult?
It was very difficult. I belong to a small village and faced many rejections. I settled for small roles. I use to find happiness in it, to avoid frustration and depression. I compromised with it. I never thought that I will become a star some day. This is like a dream for me. One thing that worked for me was probably honesty with which I worked. I use to give my best even for those small roles. I was passionate about acting. Slowly that one scene changed to two, then three and so on and today I am doing movies as a lead actor. It is like magic.
It seems so easy to be a celebrity but you tell us how difficult it actually is?
It appears glossy to people but it is not so. We work in every situation. I shot Freaky Ali in 49 degree temperature, wearing a sweater. When we shoot, we have to forget all our problems. We also have bad days but have to forget it while working. Making a film, promoting it, waiting for reviews is all a task. If a film doesn’t work, people very easily pass a judgement. They don’t think about the hard work that has gone behind every scene.
What will that one dream role that you want to do?
‘Mughal e Azam ka Dilip Kumar’. This is one role I feel I can do full justice to.
You have also worked with both Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan. How was it? Tell us something about them.
It is amazing working with them. Shah Rukh is very humble with his co-stars while working with Salman is fun.
You once said, “There are three kinds of actors – good, bad and Salman Khan.” What do you have to say about it?
I still feel so. Salman Bhai has his own aura. He has some magic. He has proved himself, especially with ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ and ‘Sultan’.
He is growing and his acting is improving. I feel people who criticise him should see themselves first. Salman Khan is also a normal human being. He also saw a bad phase but that did not stop him but actually pushed him to work hard. It is not easy to maintain success. I feel people who criticise others are frustrated cause of their failures.
Which Khan brother you like the most?
I am a Sohail Khan fan. He is an amazing director.
Why do you think people should go and watch Freaky Ali?
It is an entertaining film. It has comedy, romance, simplicity. You will get to know about golf. Basically, this is a movie for kids. They will enjoy it the most.
