A stage erected for actor-filmmaker-singer Farhan Akhtar‘s upcoming live performance at a college fest in Indore came crashing down on Wednesday. Videos of the collapse were shared online. One video, posted by a paparazzi account, shows a gust of wind knocking over the lights and other fixtures. The elevated stage collapsed, and a part of the scaffolding also collided into the campus building.

The video also shows a bunch of people rushing towards the collapsed stage, presumably to check if anybody was caught under the rubble. “Bhai kisi ko laga nahi hai na (Did anybody get hurt)?” a person can be heard asking in the video. Another person can be heard replied in the negative. It looked as though the people making the videos were anticipating the stage’s collapse during the dust storm. “Gaya, gaya, gaya (It’s going),” one person could be heard saying just as the stage began to collapse. Videos of the aftermath showed wrecked equipment.

Farhan was due to perform at the fest this week. An article posted on the official website of Indore’s Sushila Devi Bansal College advertised his performance on March 21. The BGI Timelapse festival was due to be held on April 5 in Indore and April 6 in Bhopal.

Farhan regularly performs live on stage; he gained recognition as a musician after starring in the hit film Rock On!! He reprised his role as the singer of an underdog band in the film’s sequel, which didn’t perform well at the box office. But he first broke out in the film industry as the director of the coming of age film Dil Chahta Hai. After a long sabbatical during which he focused on his acting career, he will return to direction with the road trip film Jee Le Zaraa, starring Katrina Kaif, Alia Bhatt and Priyanka Chopra.
