Dunki box office collection day 19: Shah Rukh Khan-starrer inches close to Rs 450 cr globally, Rs 20 cr short of beating Salman Khan’s Tiger 3

Dunki box office collection day 19: Shah Rukh Khan-Rajkumar Hirani film registered its lowest collection at Rs 1.60 cr on Monday, as it chases Tiger 3's global record.

Dunki box office collectionsDunki was the third release of the year for Shah Rukh Khan.

Headlined by superstar Shah Rukh Khan, the comedy drama Dunki on its third Monday registered its lowest haul since its December 21 release, netting Rs 1.60 crore in India, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The total domestic collections of Dunki now stand at Rs 218 cr. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the film will now aim to beat Chennai Express, which made Rs 227 cr in India. Globally, Dunki has beaten the Rohit Shetty comedy (Rs 422 cr) by grossing over Rs 445 cr in 19 days.

In terms of the worldwide collections, Dunki is now aiming to compete with Salman Khan-fronted Tiger 3. The third part of the action franchise was released on Diwali and ended its global run at Rs 464 cr. Both films have been underperformers at the box office, despite being billed as sure-short box office winners before the release. Tiger 3, however, cost a reported Rs 300 crore, while Dunki cost a third of that amount.

Dunki’s success comes despite mixed response from the audience, and a box office clash with Prabhas’ actioner Salaar, which has also put a good total globally. The legacy of Dunki, from trade perspective, will be that it became the first film in the comedy drama genre to get these numbers in the post-pandemic era. Previously, Aamir Khan had delivered a dud with Lal Singh Chaddha and Salman Khan fronted comedy Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan sank without a trace.

Dunki was Shah Rukh’s third release of the year, after blockbusters like Pathaan and Jawan, which made a combined global total of over Rs 2200 crore. He will be next seen in an extended appearance with daughter Suhana Khan in the action thriller The King.
