Did Shah Rukh Khan mention his Manglore connection to promote Chennai Express?

King Khan reminiscing about his childhood days spent in Mangalore during the promotions of Chennai Express looked contrived.

The locals are now curious about what Shah Rukh Khan’s contribution would be to Mangalore, that is his ‘birth place’

A lot has been said and assumed ever since Shah Rukh Khan stated that he had spent his formative years in Mangalore and that he is from Panambur, which is on the outskirts of the coastal town. When the news broke out, there was a great amount of surprise and curiosity from many quarters; firstly because the actor who has always spoken about his late father (a Pathan) and mother whom he misses a lot,had never ever mentioned his grandfather or that he was the chief engineer of the Port Trust of Mangalore in any of his innumerable interviews or that he (SRK) was born there and brought up by his maternal aunts and naani and spoke Kannada with the servants of the house. Secondly, because no one could have ever guessed that just prior to the release of Chennai Express,he would make this connection,of belonging to Karnataka.

I am really not too certain about little kids being capable of remembering details of their childhood days till they start going to school. Or this could be one of the rarest possible cases. That apart, the actor even claimed that the house where he was born holds special memories for him. In that case then,it is strange that he has never visited the house even once in the last forty years.

A quote made by their favourite actor had fans haunting the Harbour House,(as it is apparently called) that supposedly stands in a quiet bylane of the port premises in Panambur and has now become a tourist attraction. Even the security officer at the New Mangalore Port gained mileage as he was interviewed, with queries about the Badshah of Bollywood. Apparently having served as a guard there,he is supposed to have stated that he never imagined that one of the kids of the house would some day become such a huge and famous star.

Like many,I too wonder about the reason to bring this up now after almost four decades and prior to the release of Chennai Express, which has gone on to become the biggest hit film, creating history in Indian cinema. And even more strange is the fact that ever since his claim of being a ‘Mangalorean’,and the place holding fond memories, the locals are now curious about what Shah Rukh Khan’s contribution would be to the state that is his ‘birth place’?
