Dia Mirza defends Nadaniyaan stars Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor against backlash, blames ‘eat the privilege’ culture

Dia isn’t the first Bollywood personality to defend Ibrahim and Khushi in the aftermath of the backlash. Many people, like Hansal Mehta, Vikram Bhatt and Nadaaniyan producer Karan Johar, have come to the defence of the young actors and have pointed out that things got out of hand.

Jugal Hansraj, who played the husband of Dia’s character in the film, also gave his two cents about the situation. He said that social media should be a platform for ‘constructive criticism’ and not ‘personal attacks’ and how things were different when we were starting out in the industry. “In the ’80s, many actors started off new with their first films, but there was no social media, so they were given space and time to grow and improve. There was equal awkwardness in all of us when we started off, but because of the lack of social media, there wasn’t this unfair scrutiny,” the actor said in an interview with India Today.

Nadaaniyan, produced by Dharmatics Entertainment, was released on March 7 and is currently streaming on Netflix.
