It’s not a regular, run-of-the-mill teaser which tries to show off about the movie. ‘Piku’ teaser is simple and simply complex too. It reveals as much as it hides.

The teaser starts with Deepika saying, “I really liked the trailer. I think it’s perfect.” But her father played by Amitabh doesn’t seem too please. “Promotion karega. Hamari family ka poora baat baahar nikal jayega toh?” Big B says in his Bengali-accented Hindi.

The conversation then flows and changes into a banter to which Irrfan Khan says, “Hey Bhagwaan! Shuru ho gaye phir.”

Amitabh Bachchan seems to have put in a lot of effort in perfecting his Bengali accent, while speaking Hindi. Though it misses perfection by a few yards, Big B looks awesomely cute in his Bengali avatar.

Then there is a tomboyish Deepika Padukone, wearing sweats and looking extremely pretty. She catches the nuances of the character nicely and brings out the ‘dude’ in her.

Reportedly, Irrfan Khan plays Deepika’s love interest in the movie and as can be understood from the teaser plays the arbitrator.

The most striking feature of the teaser is that it brings out the father-daughter relationship very beautifully, especially when Big B says, “Aiyyii Piku, Aiiyiiii Piku,” at the end of the trailer. The father is this orthodox head of the family and Deepika is an archetypal rebel. Their views might differ, yet there is love and that love is conveyed sublimially. The plot, however, remains hidden.

With a stellar starcast like this and an impressive teaser, we expect nothing short of a cult entertainer. Shoojit Sircar showed promise with his earlier release ‘Madras Cafe’, but will the trailer, and more importantly the movie, live up to the expectations set by the teaser? We shall see.
