Comedian and actor Sunil Pal has alleged that he was kidnapped from the outskirts of Delhi. According to Pal, he was lured to the location under the pretext of attending an event in Haridwar. The organisers had even transferred an advance payment to confirm the deal. However, things took a dark turn when they stopped for snacks on route to the venue. A man pretending to be a fan allegedly pushed him into a car and drove away.
According to Pal, he was blindfolded and taken to a secluded spot where several people were waiting. His captors reportedly demanded a ransom of Rs 20 lakh for his release. When Pal told them he didn’t have that kind of cash on him, nor his debit card, they supposedly started negotiating and looking for other ways to get the money.
“They took possession of my phone but allowed me to use it to reach out to friends and arrange for the funds. Once they received approximately Rs 7.5 lakh, they released me the next day and even provided me with Rs 20,000 for my travel expenses,” Pal shared in an audio statement with SCREEN.
Pal claims that the incident has left a lasting impact on his mental well-being. He initially didn’t plan to speak publicly about the ordeal, but his wife had already contacted the police, prompting him to share his account. Pal alleged that his captors erased all call records from his phone and destroyed any evidence that could lead the police to their identification. They also allegedly obtained personal information about his family, which has left him concerned for their safety.
The police investigation into the matter is currently underway, with the authenticity of Pal’s claims yet to be confirmed. Meanwhile, Pal has been reunited with his family in Mumbai, after he returned home on Wednesday, December 4.
